Welcome to Flutter By Meadows
I’m Samantha — Through writing, I share the wonder I’ve found in native plants, wild places, and even the overlooked corners of my own backyard.
Native plants don’t just bloom, they grow on you
My writing captures both the ecological importance of what I’m doing and the emotional impact it has on me. I’m not just talking about native habitats; I’m learning from them as they teach me. My garden has become a living, seasonal symphony — an inspiring, real-life example of how others can do it too.
The plants in my yard offer plenty to write about
This isn’t a space for diatribes or doom. You won’t find a list of everything wrong with traditional lawns here. What you’ll find are stories — lived experiences from my own yard as it transforms and, in turn, transforms me. That first surprise bird sighting after planting native species changed more than my garden; it changed my perspective.
Nature has a grounding effect year-round, not just when things are blooming. Winter’s quiet dormancy is as powerful as summer’s abundance. Through my writing, I hope to remind you of that rhythm — to pause for a moment, listen to a bird’s song, or feel the warmth of the sun on your face.
Planting with purpose
Here on Substack, I’ll be sharing reflections, photos, and observations maybe once or twice a week…following the seasons as they unfold. Expect musings on native plants, rewilding, and the connections between people and place.
If you’re longing to see your outdoor space differently — not as something to control, but as something to belong to — I think you’ll feel at home here.
Subscribe to join me in slowing down, noticing more, and rediscovering the wonder waiting right outside your door.

Nothing is more true when it comes to native plants. You plant something, but a whole host of insects, creatures I can’t name, and amazing birds will start stopping by too.
We will see where this goes. For now you can get my writings for free. Maybe one day, I will switch to paid subscriptions. Thank you for being here!
